Book #5: When Nigeria Teaches America. The rising of a Great African Nation.
PREFACE. GOOD MORNING NIGERIA!!!
Yes, I say Good Morning to you especially if you are Nigerian or African.
I say GOOD MORNING, because I am excited at the new dawn that is breaking forth on the African continent. THE SUN IS RISING ON NIGERIA to provide warmth and light to the rest of Africa and indeed the rest of the world.
It sounds like a fantasy or a fairytale, but this is the kind of fairy tale that could soon become a reality. WHEN NIGERIA TEACHES AMERICA!
With the recent unsavory happenings in Africa, one would wonder if I should have my head examined or be checked into a mental institution as a matter of great exigency. When I declare that Nigeria will teach America!!!
I am not ignorant of the rampage of the deadly Boko Haram sect in Nigeria. I am also very much aware of the violent conflicts in other places in Africa. Since the invention of internet, the world has become a global village. Information about happenings all over the world is accessible to anyone who is keen on knowing. Hence you can even be informed about what is going on in a country much more than the people currently living in the said country.
I am also fully acquainted with the deep poverty of many Nigerians. About 70.8 percent of the populations live on less than one dollar a day. 92.4 percent live on less than two dollars a day. As a young lad, I grew up under the care and parenting of my grandmother. The rigorous humbleness of poverty made itself felt in all aspects of our lives, we could barely survive!!!
In fact, I still count it the biggest miracle of my life when a distant relative paid off my fifty naira West African Senior School Certificate Examination fee (WAEC). Otherwise I was on my way out into the world without a high school certificate, because of fifty naira that my whole family could not come up with. Friends, believe me. Mine was not the only case. Cases like this abound in their millions all over Nigeria and Africa.
Many people who have potentials to become great are wasted in the villages and farms of the continent. The Emeagwalis, the Adelajas, the Chimamandas, the Ogunlesis, the Dangotes, the Imafidons, the Okoyas etc. Imagine what awaits Nigeria when all our potential is harnessed towards the development of individual Citizens, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.
I am also aware of the critically heart wrenching maternal mortality and Infant mortality rates which only compare to nations such as India and Pakistan. Don’t think that I am ignorant of the ravage of the HIV/AIDS scourge in Africa, with Nigeria ranking 2nd only to South Africa. As the country with the highest prevalence of HIV in the World.
It is also no news to me that the Nigeria’s legacy of mismanagement and corrupt governance has encouraged many people to seek ways of sharing the national cake instead of helping bake it. Yes I know all that! I am not ignorant of Nigeria’s plight.
However, I bring a message of hope, not based on bravado but based on facts. Lots of great feats are being achieved both by Nigerians in the African soil and Nigerians in Diasporas. This wonderful happenings, facts and reports have somehow escaped being reported in mainstream media or have been drowned by the noise of bad news.
As the saying goes, bad news travels faster than good news. However, I am here to bring you good news and the good news is that – NIGERIA IS ON THE RISE! Nigeria is quickly rising to become one of the greatest nations in the world. A nation that other countries will emulate, even great countries such as USA will learn from the feet of Nigeria in the coming days.
For example, despite Nigeria’s inadequacies and failures, even in the recently concluded elections (28TH-29TH MARCH 2015),
The Hon. Mr. Ambassador James Entwistle, American Ambassador to Nigeria still made this compelling statement;
“I am very impressed by the decision of INEC to use technology in this election. The Permanent Voter Cards are very high-tech, they are more high tech than my voter card from the state of Virginia in the US. My voter card does not have biometric. It does not have my fingerprint. The high-tech gives the process more integrity. I congratulate INEC on taking the part of High-tech. I think we need to come and study it so that we can use it in my country.”
Great People of Nigeria, I see a picture of things to come for our beloved nation. Somehow I can see afar off, a day when Nigeria would arise as the leader of the black race, that will one day outrun the technologically advanced nations of the first world including America.
Could this be the proverbial cloud in the sky in the shape of a man’s hand that made Elijah to outrun King Ahab’s chariot?
IT IS INDEED A NEW DAWN FOR THE GIANT OF AFRICA!!!
GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT NATION!!!
CHAPTER ONE. A NEW DAWN
Chapter one, starts with intriguing and captivating news of the new Nigeria that we foresee….For Example;
“The number of foreign students in Nigerian colleges and universities grew dramatically from 10,000 to 520,000.The sharpest increases occurred among students from USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Russia, China and other West African Countries. Foreigners studying for bachelors, master’s degree, PHD and skill acquisition accounted for most of the overall growth’’
This chapter further describes all other spheres of influence and how other countries especially America is benefitting from Nigeria. The Nigerian Passport is further described as a hot cake!!! The writer shows the readers a convincing picture of a new Nigeria and then ends the suspense by letting the reader know that it could happen by Year 2050. He reiterates that this book will show them how that could be possible. As they read further.
“It sounds like a fantasy or a fairytale, but this is the kind of fairy tale that could soon become a reality. WHEN NIGERIA TEACHES AMERA
CHAPTER TWO. THE MAKING OF AMERICA
This chapter focuses on the great feats of America; the great discoveries, inventions, giant strides in science, technology, escapade in the sky, space, sea, land, etc. The writer exposes the reader to America as the world power. Better helping the reader understand what Nigeria is up against…… For example;
“America is the father of our modern democracy. America was the first to put a man on the moon. Coca cola, the world’s most known soft-drink product comes from America. America created the modern movie industry Hollywood etc…. What can Nigeria possibly teach them…?”
Having stated almost all the great feats of America, the writer reiterates that it looks almost impossible for Nigeria to Teach America. Nevertheless, the solutions he offers in subsequent chapters on how this can be done, will definitely blow your mind away.
CHAPTER THREE. THE RISE AND FALL OF NATIONS
In this chapter, the writer focuses on stories of nations that rose and fell….. Laying special emphasizes on the fact that there is time and season for every Nation. He explains that it is the season for Nigeria to arise…….For example;
“The old Egypt which was the cradle of civilization, it rose and fell. Persia and Mesopotamia were great in the ancient world because of their achievements in arts. Rome was developed because of its fighting power. Greek was great because of her democracy. These and many other countries rose and fell”…..
The writer further wrote about countries that produced world’s greatest warriors and conquerors as Alexander the great, Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolf Hitler; great philosophers as Aristotle, Socrates, Plato etc those nations rose to fall and rose to fall to rise no more. THE SEASON AND TIME OF NIGERIA IS NOW!!!
CHAPTER FOUR. LESSONS FROM THE ASIAN TIGERS
In this chapter, the writer highlights lessons from THE ASIAN TIGERS”. What is now referred to as “THE EAST ASIAN MIRACLE” (The four “tigers” of East Asia -South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong-Kong)
The writer also went ahead to briefly draw out lessons from China and Indonesia. Explaining where these countries were in the past and how they got to where they are currently. This is better preparing and laying foundation for the reader on how that change is possible with the right system in place.
He also emphasized that Nigeria can indeed take over the world. Owing to the fact that Nigeria is more privileged than these countries in the riches of its Natural resources. If these countries can make so much out of so little then Nigerian with the much it has can rule the world.
Nigeria indeed has a lot to learn from these countries in other to become the next world power!!!
CHAPTER FIVE. GIANT OF AFRICA- NIGERIA
This chapter takes a look into the NEXT DESTINATION for Greatness – AFRICA and Nigeria as the GIANT OF AFRICA. The writer justifies what makes Nigeria the Giant of Africa-Great feats and rising hopes.
The writer emphasizes on the many pace Nigeria has set in the now and immediate past. Her exploits in foreign lands, education and political rebirth. Her exploits in science and technology, business and wealth creation, health “how Nigeria tamed Ebola”, etc
The writer also acknowledges Nigeria’s failings and defeats. He argues that most great nations emerge from hard times to great times, as seen from the examples of countries that rose from third world to first world.
CHAPTER SIX. COULD THIS BE THE PROVERBIAL CLOUD???
Could this be the proverbial cloud in the sky in the shape of a man’s hand that made Elijah to outrun King Ahab’s chariot? (1kings 18:44, 46)
The writer explains the above scripture. Giving the reader revelational insight into the meaning of the scripture, in relation to THE RISE OF NIGERIA.
He also links it up to some other bible stories and draws every lesson from the stories revealing to the reader that Nigeria can overtake America.
CHAPTER ONE. AMERICA SETTING SUN, NIGERIA RISING SUN-OVERTAKING IS ALLOWED
In this chapter, the writer explains that; America has reached its pinnacle. They grow less than 2 percent a year and have been growing like that for more than ten years now. Nigeria on the other hand has been growing not less than 6 percent per annum, already overtaking them three times. Nigeria is going up at a very fast pace.
He further emphasizes that Nigeria is a virgin land and if well harnessed will benefit the whole World. Not as a matter of pride but as a matter of necessity, to be able to stand on its own and not constitute nuisance to the American Nation.
According to the writer, nations only constitute nuisance to other Nations if they lack in actualization of their full potentials. Therefore, the best bet will be to help Nigeria stand and not try to extort it. By doing so, all other African countries and the world at large will benefit immensely. As Nigeria is the Giant of Africa, THE RISING SUN!!!
CHAPTER TWO. THE RISING OF INTELLECTUAL GAINTS-OF ACADEMIC FEATS AND BROKEN RECORD
The writer in this chapter, points out that there is a close relationship between the intellectual capital of a nation and its true wealth. He explains that in cases where a country’s intellectual capital is well developed but the economy is not. It just takes a matter of time and the economy catches up.
He enlisted China and India as examples, also stating that Nigeria is already an example having been listed as the biggest economy in Africa. He further explains;
“Feats of mental excellence and intellectual accomplishments abound in Nigeria, many unrecorded. However, I mention but a few as listed below: …The Nigerians who got multiple admissions offers in all eight Ivy League schools in the United States of America .The story of Chimamanda Adichie and a few other literary giants such as Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka (Nobel Prize winners)”
The writer further reiterates that many Nigerians are smarter but didn’t get the chance ………. He tells the story of a smart young Nigerian. Who later became a taxi driver just because he couldn’t continue with his education. He lost his father and since he didn’t have help, he had to drop out of school to start catering for his sick mother and his younger ones. Till date he is still struggling… He had the potential to shake the World with his intellectual ability, but he never did.
CHAPTER THREE. UNBELIEVABLE IQ-THE MOST INTELLIGENT FAMILY IN THE WORLD
The writer in this chapter explains that; Nigeria has one of the best IQs in the world. He asked the reader to imagine what could happen if all other intelligent families in Nigeria had the same exposure as the Imafidons. He described that the result would be an EXPLOSION.
The writer went ahead to tell the story of the Imafidons and drawing out the lesson from the family;
“The BBC called the Imafidon family, Britain’s brainiest family and members of that family feature in most of the major media in Britain. Most recently, in the premier business magazine in the world, Forbes. All five children, now ages 12- 24 have demonstrated incredible mental abilities in all domains. From music, to mathematics, to athletics. The youngest, the twins Peter and Paula passed the British high school mathematics examination at 6 and the Cambridge University advance mathematics examination, which most Harvard and Stanford seniors will have trouble with at age 8”
CHAPTER FOUR. THE RISING OF GLOBAL ENTERPRENEURS, HOME GROWN BUSINESSES
The writer reiterates in this chapter that despite the seemingly insurmountable challenges. Nigerian entrepreneurs daily defy the odds. Building creative and innovative enterprise that are serving millions of people in several countries.
The writer went ahead to expatiate the laudable economic feats of likes of Dangote Group of Companies, Mike Adenuga’s Globacom and other ground breaking Nigerian businesses that are of global relevance and dominance.
CHAPTER FIVE. WHEN A NIGERIAN MADE DULL OUTSELLS BARBIE-NOW THAT IS ECONOMIC REVOLUTION
In this chapter, the author reminds the reader of the analogy he gave in the previous chapter SUN SET and the SUN RISE. For anybody that cares to listen, he wrote;
“Nigeria is going to be known as the rising star of the future world!”
The writer went ahead to expatiate on the story below, revealing to the reader the lessons thereof;
“As Barbie sales continue to plummet, another doll is aiming to slide in and take her place. The Queens of Africa and Naija Princess dolls are outselling Mattel’s original. The dolls’ mastermind, 43-year-old Taofick Okoya, told Reuters that he sells between 6,000 and 9,000 dolls per month, claiming 10 to 15 percent of the small, but growing toy market in Nigeria”
CHAPTER SIX. PHILIP EMEAGWALI-THE COMPUTER WIZARD
In this chapter the writer tells the story of Inventor of the World’s Fastest Computer. He expatiated on this story. Drawing out lessons for the reader to meditate on, he wrote;
“Emeagwali used 65,000 processors to invent the world’s fastest computer, which performs computations at 3.1 billion calculations per second.
Dr. Philip Emeagwali’s resume is loaded with many other such feats, including ways of making oil fields more productive – which has resulted in the United States saving hundreds of millions of dollars each year. As one of the most famous African-American inventors of the 20th century, Dr. Emeagwali also has won the Gordon Bell Prize – the Nobel Prize for computation. His computers are currently being used to forecast the weather and to predict the likelihood and effects of future global warming”
The author also goes ahead to write; “I have no doubt in my heart that given the same opportunity as Dr. Emeaguali, there are many more Nigerians that would perform as well if not better. Our land abounds with millions of Emeagwalis. Nigeria surely can teach the world.”
CHAPTER SEVEN. WITTY INVENTIONS-THE NIGERIAN STORY
The writer explains that crises often breed opportunities. He wrote;
“Switzerland has been arguably one of the most peaceful nations in the world. However, countries such as Germany and Italy that have witnessed several generations of conflicts have been incubators of great inventions as well…..….” (He enlists some of the inventions in these countries and findings: as far back as Galileo on the leaning towers of Pisa, etc). He also mentioned that great Artistes and Musicians such as George Fredrick Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach, Michael Angelo, Picasso, etc. also came from these countries.
According to the writer, the challenges facing Nigeria has become a platform for witty inventions and bold witty innovations. For example;
“Nigeria is struggling to build refineries and is exporting crude oil. Meanwhile, in the communities in the creeks, some individuals have been refining crude oil which they obtain from bunkering…” The writer also mentioned countless innovations at places like Aba and Nnewi, in the eastern part of Nigeria.
CHAPTER EIGHT. THE NEW ECONOMY-THE RISE OF NEW GENERATION OF ENTREPRENEURS
In this chapter, the writer explains that despite power challenges and the prohibitory cost of internet services in Nigeria. A new generation of dotcom entrepreneurs is arising even without formal education in that area.
Most of these daring entrepreneurs learnt all they know by studying online, trial and error, failing and getting up. They mostly bootstrapped with little or no financing at the beginning.
He went ahead to list some examples of some ground breaking internet ventures by Nigerians. For example; hotels.ng – an innovative Nigerian business started less than 2 years ago.
Pierre Omidhyar, the founder of PayPal and one of the most influential internet entrepreneurs and investor is seeing what smart people around the world is seeing – the potential in Nigeria. No wonder he invested $2million into hotel.ng.
Strive Masiyiwa, the billionaire Chairman of Econet made a statement that Nigeria is one of the best places to invest in the world now…
No constant electricity yet Nigerians are breaking record in different kinds of internet businesses. Imagine what will happen if…
CHAPTER NINE. ECONOMY ON THE RISE-PHENOMENAL GROWTH OF NIGERIAN BANK
In this chapter, the writer outlines the possible challenges of the banks in Nigeria. He emphasized that despite all the challenges they are topping the chat. He also gave more details on the accomplishments of the Nigerian banks. For examples;
“Another reason why Nigeria is the rising star of the future world is THE PHENOMENAL GROWTH OF THE NIGERIAN BANKS.
Thirteen Nigerian banks have been listed among the Leading 1000 Global Banks as published by The Banker magazine of the Financial Times Group in its 2014 edition.
The Nigerian banks that made the ranking based on Tier-1 capital are Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, First Bank, Access Bank, United Bank for Africa, Fidelity Bank and Ecobank Nigeria.
Others are Skye Bank, First City Monument Bank, Diamond Bank, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria and Union Bank of Nigeria.
The report, which listed 13 Nigerian banks that made the ranking, underlines Nigeria’s financial sector’s leading position in Africa as no other African country has up to 13 banks in the Top 1000 World listing of banks”
The writer furthermore emphasized that he doesn’t have any doubt in his heart that with an increase in stability of Nigeria’s economic and political life. Her banks could only rank higher and higher. He stated emphatically that the sky is the limit for the future of Nigeria and Africa as a whole
CHAPTER ONE. LONDON’S SECOND LARGEST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The writer explains in this chapter that another reason why Nigeria is the rising star of the future is in what the rest of the world would refuse to believe. For example:
“WHO COULD HAVE BELIEVED THAT A NIGERIAN OWNS THE SECOND LARGEST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ALL OF GREAT BRITAIN? Here is the story:
Up until February 2010, very few people had heard about Adebayo Ogunlesi. The Nigerian-born investment banker and money manager made international headlines when he led the acquisition of London’s Gatwick Airport from the British Airports Authority in a recorded £1.51 billion deal. The acquisition instantly propelled Ogunlesi, 58, into the global spotlight and earned him a place in history as the man who acquired London’s second largest international airport…”
The writer went ahead to draw out lessons from the life of Adebayo Ogunlesi as an encouragement to Nigerians.
CHAPTER ONE. NIGERIAN STUDENT IMMIGRANTS- BREAKING ACADEMIC WORLD RECORDS
In this chapter, the writer tells many more stories of Nigerian student immigrants breaking world record. Despite that most of them didn’t have the best educational facilities. At both primary and secondary school level back in Nigeria. For example;
“A genius could be referred to as an exceptional child who is academically sound. But, how would you describe an individual who never misses a point in his examinations from first year in the university to the final year? If there is any adjective to qualify such a person, that word could best describe TunjiOlu-Taiwo, an Engineering student of Eastern Mediterranean University in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus who obtained 4.0 CGPA out of 4.0 CGPA, the first ever in the department…’’
CHAPTER TWO. TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP
This chapter elucidates the feats of great leaders of Nigerian decent both religious and political. Home and abroad, for example:
“Pastor E.A Adeboye who was listed by Times Magazine as one of the top 50 most influential men in the world…(His Story)
Chuka Harrison Umunna a British Labor politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Streatham since 2010 and Shadow Business Secretary since 2011
Sunday Adelaja, the only black man in the world that leads a congregation of mostly Caucasians in 50 countries. Sunday Adelaja is the pastor of the largest Evangelical Church in Europe with a population of 99.9% white Europeans in Kiev Ukraine. His ministry has charity units that feed over 5000 people on a daily basis…”
The writer made it clear that Nigerians have inherent leadership qualities that if well directed can produce the best leaders of the World.
CHAPTER THREE. YOUNG NIGERIANS-NIGERIA’S BEST BET FOR REFORMATION
In this Chapter, the writer reemphasizes on the achievements of the young people of Nigeria. He explains how their empowerment can create revolution in the entire country and Africa as whole. He also goes ahead to give the readers ideas of projects that could be launched out all over Nigeria to cause a massive revolution.
He also explained that Nigerian youths are wasting because they are not being harnessed. He states that one of the most important resources God has given Nigeria as a Nation Is her Young People!!!(Expatiating on the characteristics of an average Nigerian youth)
Operations save the Nigerian Youth!!!
CHAPTER FOUR. WHAT INFLUENTIAL LEADERS SAY ABOUT NIGERIA –LISTEN TO THEM, THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SAYING!!!
This chapter highlights and explains what great leaders have said or prophesied concerning Nigeria!!!For example;
Cindy Jacob’s Vision (Rev Cindy Jacobs made some great prophecies on Nigeria)
Barack Obama’s statements concerning Nigeria
Africa Awake by Chad Taylor: 2000
Africa; A storehouse to the Nations by Chad Taylor: 2007 etc.
The writer concludes this chapter with a message of hope, faith and encouragement, he wrote:
“Now on a personal note, I would like to say that when I was growing up in Africa, I never saw anything special about myself that could distinguish me from the millions of kids in my nation. As a matter of fact, there are still so many millions of Sunday Adelajas wasting away in their villages and hamlets without any sort of recognition whatsoever.
I was destined to be in their number if not for divine grace. Whenever I visit Nigeria I see myself in all those young men. I see myself in those barefooted boys and girls running about the streets with protruding stomachs without shirts, hawking one product or the other for survival. That was me!
In fact, I still count it the biggest miracle of my life when a distant relative paid off my fifty naira WAEC fee (Final high school exams). Otherwise I was on my way out into the world without a high school certificate, because of fifty naira that my whole family could not come up with. Friends, believe me mine was not the only case. Cases like this abound in their millions all over Nigeria and Africa.
Many of them are wasted in the villages and farms of the continent. The Emeagwalis, the Adelajas, the Chimamandas, the Ogunlesis, the Dangotes, the Imafidons, the Okoyas etc… Imagine what awaits Nigeria when all our potential is harnessed towards the development of everyCitizen, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large………’’
“I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT NIGERIA, WILL ONE DAY LEAD OUR WORLD!”
CHAPTER FIVE. 21GALVANIZING INTO ACTION– THINGS NIGERIAN MUST GET RIGHT TO QUICKEN ITS RISE TO WORLD POWER
The writer creates awareness and proffers solutions to the major problems of Nigeria. He enlisted and explained some steps to be taken including;
- Strategic Prayer – Nigerians need to start praying for God’s Kingdom to come and not just prayer for prosperity and for personal gains.
- Checkmating corruption at Individual and National level
- Government Policy on youth development and strategic nation building
- Power generation and transmission
