Book #1: NATIONAL GREATNESS

Book #1: NATIONAL GREATNESS BEGINS FROM HERE: UNDERSTANDING THE CALLING OF GOD FOR EVERY NATION

PURPOSE-OF-NATIONS_1

SYNOPSIS OF THE BOOK

PART ONE: NATIONS AS MASTERPIECES OF DESTINY

CHAPTER ONE: NATIONS ARE NOT BY ACCIDENT

This chapter seeks to debunk the belief that nations are accidental foundations. It seeks to establish the fact that both from sociological and spiritual viewpoints, nations come into being for very significant reasons. Specifically in the scriptural point of view, the chapter will underscore, with relevant scriptural passages, that God is involved in the conception, creation, composition, administration and destiny of nations and that He has a definite purpose he wants every nation to fulfill according to his master plan.

CHAPTER TWO: GOD PREORDAINS NATIONAL PURPOSE

“Known unto God are all his works from the beginning”

Having established the fact that nations are not by accident, this chapter will further highlight the role of God in the birth of national values and purpose. It will posit that while God has a general purpose for creating all nations of the earth, there is a specific purpose for each individual nation. While, for instance, the collective purpose of God for all nations is to worship Him and do His will, how each nation will fulfill His will is particular to that nation. Just as every member of a family has a role to play in actualizing its ultimate desire for peace, progress and prosperity, so does every nation have its part to play in advancing the glory and majesty of the Almighty God. The chapter will emphasize that the distinct socio-cultural, geographical, behavioral and even physical attributes of a nation serve as a pointer to the fact that God has a specific calling and mandate for that nation. Scriptural references will be used to validate this.

CHAPTER THREE: UNLOCKING GOD’S MASTER PLAN FOR EVERY NATION

This chapter will build on the foundation laid in the previous chapter.  Having stated that every nation has a definite purpose or reason for reason for existing, as predetermined by God, this chapter will set out to show how each nation can discover it’s own calling. It will attempt to Demystify the process of this discovery by stressing that this divine master plan can easily be found embedded in the burdens and aspirations of the founding fathers of every nation, as well national documents (Constitutions, Declarations of Independence), symbols (coat of arms, flags, national anthems, etc), cultures, values and most importantly and interestingly, the Holy Scripture.

PART TWO: UNRAVELLING THE ULTIMATE CALLINGS AND MANDATES OF SPECIFIC NATIONS

This part of the book will give specific attention, in separate chapters, to the purpose of God for some selected countries. These include: France, Great Britain,  the United States, Germany and Nigeria. As may be considered necessary, the aspirations of the founding fathers, the circumstances surrounding the emergence/independence, the Declaration of Independence (as in the case of the United States, the national anthem and the national pledge (as in the case of Nigeria), other historical records and milestones (such as the French Revolution) as well as relevant scriptural references will all be considered, deciphered and analysed to unravel the definite messages and divine messages encapsulated in them.

PART THREE: HELPING NATIONS FULFIL THEIR PURPOSES

CHAPTER ONE: ENGRAVING NATIONAL VALUES IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF A NATION

This chapter, in line with the focus of the part of the book, will suggest proven methods of inculcating national values in the minds and mentalities of citizens. The aim of which is to lead citizens towards the direction of fulfilling collective national destiny. Citizens make up nations. Thus this chapter will submit that for a nation to fulfill its calling, the citizens must be adequately enlightened, orientated and motivated to imbibe, uphold, protect and propagate its values and heritage. Suggested means of engraving such values will include obligating History as a subject for all students, engaging in orientation programmes, censuring deviant behaviours, leading by example etc.

CHAPTER TWO: NATIONAL VALUES AND THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

Here extra attention will be given to the educational system of a nation as a veritable channel of institutionalising, inculcating, projecting and preserving national values. It will avow that while it is good to emulate advanced nations in the development of educational curriculums at all levels, paramount consideration must be given to adaptation and localisation so add to reflect the values and aspirations of the nation.  It will suggest curricular and extra-curricular additions that could be introduced to the educational system at all levels (primary, secondary and tertiary). It will also suggest a total overhaul, where necessary.

CHAPTER THREE: MEDIA, PRESS, ENTERTAINMENT AND CULTURE: TOOLS OF PROCLAIMING NATIONAL VALUES AND IDEALS UPON A NATION.

As agenda-setters and opinion leaders, the media constitute a powerful force in the preservation, as well as perversion of national values. To this end efforts will be made in this chapter to first highlight the powers of the press in shaping worldviews and attitudes and then suggest ways the media can use such powers for the advancement and propagation of national values, rather than for perversion and corrosion. Suggestions will include modification in programme contents and deliberate advocacy for upholding national values.

CHAPTER FOUR: RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS AS POWERFUL FORCES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL VALUES AND IDEALS.

There is no denying the mighty and manifold influence that religious leaders have over their followers. Many of these followers even tend to respect and respond to the dictates of their spiritual leaders than those of their governments. This chapter will therefore highlight key roles, such religious leaders can play in influencing their members to value and promote national ideals.

CHAPTER 7: NGOS, PRESSURE GROUPS, CIVIL SOCIETIES, AS WATCHDOGS FOR THE VALUES AND IDEALS OF A NATION

The task of national orientation cannot be left to the government alone. When that happens, as has been seen in countries like Nigeria, very little of anything at all, would be achieved. This chapter will therefore call on well-meaning individuals and groups to rise to the challenge of propagating national values, engaging in advocacy and lobbying for policies and practices that will foster advancement of national heritage and values. It will also suggest, using relevant examples and illustrations, that they should act as watchdogs against erosion and perversion of national ideals.
